Chicago, Ill. - UIC had five student-athletes honored with Academic All-Horizon League accolades as the league office announced the winter 2007-08 recipients on Thursday.
The swimming and diving team had three members honored, and track and field had a pair student-athletes represented on the Academic All-League squad.
Andrea Giczewski (3.42, Communications) and Dan Hare (3.22, Biological Sciences) both capped off their careers with strong performances at the league swimming championships in February. Giczewski was the 50- and 100-yard freestyle champion and Hare placed third in the 100-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Cameron Seebeck (3.77, Business), a top sprint-freestyle swimmer for the Flames, led-off the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed second at the league meet.
Mary Brennan (3.90, Biology) earned a top 20 finish at the indoor track and field meet this past March after placing 16th in the mile.
Oscar Pina (3.88, Criminal Justice) paced the men's track and field team at the indoor championships in the triple jump, placing eight with a career-best 12.96 meter effort.
To be eligible for an Academic All-Horizon League honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one year at the league institution, and earn a 3.20 (based on a 4.0 scale) or higher grade point-average in 24 semester hours of credit.
