Dancing Flames News: National Update, Audition Information|
March 24, 2010
CHICAGO- The 2009-10 season was one to remember for the UIC Dancing Flames, and auditions for next year's dance team will take place this spring to make the 2010-11 campaign even more memorable.
The Dancing Flames, coached by Toya Ambrose, placed second in the Division I hip hop competition at the 2010 UDA National Dance Team Championship in Orlando this past January.
The team also advanced to the Division I jazz competition finals, placing 12th in the country.
"Our goals were to make top 3 in hip hop and make it to finals in jazz," says Ambrose. "We accomplished that, plus more. I couldn't be more proud of my girls."
In hip hop, the Dancing Flames were ranked third after the semifinals behind the Horizon League rival Milwaukee and defending champion Delaware. The girls gave what Ambrose called "the performance of their lives" in the final round and moved up to the runner-up slot.
In jazz, the Dancing Flames were the 13th and final team to qualify into the final round of competition. The team moved up to 12th after the last showing.
"Our goal was to move up from the final slot, and we did just that," said Ambrose.
The UIC Dancing Flames program has a rich history of success, winning the 2007 UDA National Championship in Division I Hip Hop and a national title in 1996, among many accomplishments over the years.
Now the UIC Dancing Flames are holding auditions for the 2010-11 season as Ambrose and her team prepare to add to the outstanding tradition of the team.
The UIC Dancing Flames perform at all home men's basketball games, compete in the UDA College Dance National Championship at Disney World, attend camp in Milwaukee, perform at UIC campus events, host a city-wide dance showcase called Dance.Live, hold dance camps for kids, donate and support charities, and much more.
