Turk Named UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week
Senior records first-place score of 39.300 in all-around

CHICAGO – Women’s gymnast Chantel Turk has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 11-17. Turk paced the Flames in three events in last Sunday’s meet against 12th-ranked Denver at the Physical Education Building on UIC’s campus. Although the Flames were defeated, they posted their highest score of the season with a 194.625.
Against the Pioneers, Turk took home first place in the all-around competition with a career-high score of 39.300. She also managed second place in the vault (9.875), third on the floor (9.850) and fourth on the parallel bars (9.850).
Turk is the first women’s gymnast to receive the UICFlames.com award since its inception at the beginning of the 2012-13 athletic season.
The Flames are back to competition on Sunday, Feb. 24, when they travel to Denton, Texas, to contend with Texas Women's, Air Force and Centenary beginning at 2 p.m. (CT) at Kitty Magee Arena.
