Jan. 16, 2013
CHICAGO – Women’s track and field athlete Andrea Crump has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 7-13. Crump broke a nine-year old school record in the 55-meter dash at the 2013 Lewis Open to kick off the start of indoor season. Her first-place time of 7.15 seconds surpassed the old mark of 7.25, which was set by Jessica Fouche during the 2004 season.
“Andrea has branded herself as one of the top athletes in the Horizon League with her efforts last weekend,” said head track and field coach Jim Knoedel. “She accomplishes this through her continued hard work and her positive attitude towards the goals she has set. She never ceases to amaze me with her performances in the sprints and I expect to see marks in the triple jump that put her up with some of the best in the nation.”
Crump also took home first-place honors in the triple jump with a leap of 12.06 m. (39-7), which stands as the best mark in the Horizon League so far this season and trails the school record by less than one foot. The senior dominated the field as the second-place participant recorded a jump of 10.90 m.
Crump serves as the first track and field athlete to garner the UICFlames.com award since the accolade’s inception at the start of the 2012-13 academic year.
The track and field program continues their indoor season at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by North Central on Friday, Jan. 18 starting at 5 p.m. CT.
