Jan. 15, 2016 All-Time Best 76 Flames Named to 2015 HL Fall Honor Roll
Men's cross country/ track & field led UIC with 11 honorees
INDIANAPOLIS - Seventy-six UIC student-athletes across 17 sports have been named to the 2015 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll as announced on Friday by the conference office. The 76 honorees represents an all-time best for UIC.
Men's cross country/ track and field led the Flames with 11 honorees, followed by women's soccer with nine. Baseball and softball each had eight representatives, while men's soccer and women's swimming & diving each earned seven.
Six members from both the men's swimming & diving and women's cross counry/ track & field teams were honored. Both the men's and women's tennis teams had four honorees, as the women's basketball team earned three. Volleyball received two honorees and Shannon Menard represented UIC women's golf.
Among the 76 student-athletes, Alex Bashqawi, Olivia Everin, Haley Kittle, Taylor Cairns, Savannah Soppet, Piotr Lagowski, Max Cederkall, Christopher Cole and Tracy Friel all maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA.
As a whole, the Horizon League honored 948 student-athletes, with women's soccer earning the most honorees for the second consecutive semester with 127. Women's track & field earned the second-most with 115, followed by men's track & field with 90.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify: 1) participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season; 2) completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution; and 3) a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
