CHICAGO – Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) vice president and men’s basketball team member, Anthony Kelley presented various donations that were collected by the student-athletes and staff members of the UIC Athletic Department to the Pacific Garden Mission Thursday morning.

“UIC Athletics is proud that our student-athletes have embraced our commitment to community service and giving back,” Special Assistance to Athletics Denny Wills said.

Kelley was accompanied by Director of Compliance and SAAC staff advisory member Shannon Norkus. On behalf of the UIC Athletic Department, the duo presented the Mission with personal hygiene supplies that were collected by student-athletes while traveling for various competitions and winter jackets.

Kelley and Norkus were invited on a tour of the Mission, where they received a firsthand look in to the various dorms, the dining room, the clinic and other amenities provided to the guests.

The Pacific Garden Mission welcomes volunteers for various tasks, such as making beds in the dorms as they provide clean sheets and blankets each day, help in the dining room to prepare foods for the guests and assist in the mail room.

Kelley, along with SAAC president MaryKate Imrie, secretary Heidi Dahnke, staff advisors Norkus, Mike Laninga, Ryan Ptak and Katie Kozak and UIC student-athletes will assist with a Special Olympics event Jan. 24.
