ACADEMIC ADVISING
The Port Center staff is on hand for drop in academic advising and can help arrange appoinments with academic advisers in a student-athletes chosen major. The staff works closely with each college within the university to assure that S/As are constantly working towards receiving a degree in their field of study. Student Athletes also receive mandatory advisement and priority registration within their academic unit and major.

STUDY TABLE
Quiet monitored study is available to all student athletes. Those students with cumulative grade point average below 2.0 are required by the department to attend. All incoming freshmen and transfer students are also required to attend for a minimum of 6 hours per week.

TUTORING SERVICES
All Student Athletes at UIC are eligible for tutoring for any class that they take. This service is provided free of charge and is designed to work around the S/A's schedule. The tutors we provide are graduate or honor students that have been screened by the Port Center staff. To sign up for a tutor the S/A needs to fill out a request form at the front desk of the Port Center.

COMPUTERS
The Port Center is equipped with 16 computers loaded with the latest educational software for use by student athletes during regular hours of operation. Student athletes can also search the Daley Library and the World Wide Web through an internet connection. Laptop computers are available for use during competition on the road. These computers are checked out by each sport's head coach.

BOOK ROOM/AUDIO VISUAL ROOM
An audio-visual room provides an area where S/A's can view instructional videotapes or listen to audiotapes and CDs. There is also a video camera that can be used for special assignments. Students must reserve time for use of this room in advance, during the Port Center's regular hours. Books are available for all S/A's. They must sign books out from their academic counselor.

ACADEMIC MONITORING
Each semester the staff initiates a progress check for every class that each student athlete enrolled in. By doing so we are able to monitor each S/As progress and provide any help necessary. Student-Athletes are required to attend every class, tutoring session and study hall hours.

LIFE SKILLS
The Life Skills Program helps prepare our student athletes for college life and beyond. Seminars include; alcohol, drug and gambling education; career, resume and interview preparation; time management and money management. Seminars are held throughout the year.
